Using steam mops
Steam mops can remove the most difficult dirt and grime from your floors and other surfaces around the house. It's especially ideal for when babies and small children are present, or even cats and dogs. There can be harmful bacteria lurking on these surfaces, particularly floors where food has been handled, such as salmonella and listeria to name but a few.
Using this type of mop is a breeze and most products are very similar in terms of features. There is usually a water container which you fill and is used to heat water into steam. There is sometimes an option for detergents, although that is not really required unless you want a nice scent or you want the process to be sped up.
In order to use a steam cleaner or mop, you simply fill the water tank and switch the unit on. Usually you will be shown when the steamer is ready to be used ie a green light will come on etc. There is usually a trigger gun, which is just a button you hold down to start the steaming. This is a safety feature so that if you left the steamer on, it will not continue to steam.
Hold down the button and gently allow the steam to touch the areas of dirt you want to clean. The dirt should automatically start to be removed from the surface. For particularly troublesome areas, continue to go over the area with steam or use any accessories that may have come with your steam cleaner to aid with troublesome spots. Once cleaned, wipe over with a damp cloth to clear away the grime.
If you are using a steam cleaner, make sure you attach the cleaning pad to the end of the unit before using. The cleaning pads will gather the dirt and usually you can wash these pads after use. You do not need to use a brand new cleaning pad for each time you clean.
There may be accessories like nozzles for concentrating on particular tight areas like the grouting in between tiles. Use them as instructed by your manual. Once you have finished cleaning, ensure the unit is switched off.
Steam mops are an excellent way to clean floors quickly and ensure most bacteria have been killed. Not all bacteria will be removed, but it's much better than using a mop and bucket which just moves around dirty areas.
